Association objects to state government speed changes

06 Feb, 2012 11:30 PM
THE Eyre Peninsula Local Government Association will write to Road Safety Minister Jennifer Rankine in objection to possible road speed limit changes as part of the state government's road safety strategy.

At its December meeting in Kimba the group resolved to write to Minister Rankine for assurance there were no plans to reduce speed limits to 100 kilometres per hour on roads currently limited at 110kmh.

The association will also state it rejects any move to blanket speed limits on dirt roads to 80kmh for passenger vehicles.

Good work by the association. Is there any proof that reducing the speed limit by such a small amount will lower the death toll?

Seems to me like reducing the speed limit will increase the amount of time drivers spend on the road leading to increased fatigue.
