BOYD the Bunny took a special trip to Coffin Bay and Port Lincoln last week.
Boyd is part of a fundraising concept, where Australia Post hires out fluffy toys to raise money for beyondblue, Red Cross and the CFS.
Boyd’s journey started in Coffin Bay, being hired out by the town’s post office, with resident Peter Mitchell bringing Boyd to Port Lincoln for a few days.
“He’s been to the Coffin Bay post office, the pharmacy, and the other day he went with the ambulance officers on their duties,” Mr Mitchell said.
“He’s based in Coffin Bay but he’s come to Port Lincoln for a quick trip because he hasn’t been here before.
“In Port Lincoln he’s done work experience at the Eyre Regional Development Board, chairing a staff meeting, and popped into Member for Flinders Liz Penfold’s office for a chat and to talk about issues facing fluffy toys across Eyre Peninsula, and what the Liberal Party will do for fluffy toys if they win the next State Government election.”
Boyd passed onto Mrs Penfold his request that if the Liberal Party wins the next election, there will be no South Australian fluffy toy living in poverty by 2014.
“They will be active across all hospitals and schools as members of a disadvantaged minority group,” Mr Mitchell said.
“We will be making them welcome in an advisory capacity to make sure everyone is getting lots of warm cuddles and good advice across the region,” Mrs Penfold said.
Boyd also joined mayor Peter Davis and a crew of locals delivering meals as part of National Means on Wheels day last Wednesday.
Mr Mitchell said the fundraising concept began with Ted E Bear, but there was so much demand more fluffy toys had to be brought into the program.
“Australia Post adopts different charities every year,” he said.
