A WEBSITE that allows parents to compare schools and their children's progress to others in the country was discussed at an Australian Education Union area meeting in Port Lincoln on Monday night.
Tumby Bay Area School and Port Lincoln school representatives attended and there was widespread concern for the Federal Government initiative website 'my school', AEU Port Lincoln sub branch secretary Greg Fitzgerald said.
The website would show the results of National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy Testing (NAPLAN) tests that students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 do, compared against other schools deemed similar.
But Mr Fitzgerald said no two schools are the same.
"There are schools in various districts that are more complex based on the nature of their environment," he said.
The website will also show the number of students and teachers at the school, attendance rates, senior secondary outcomes and school-level data about students' backgrounds.
Currently, if a student does not make the "benchmark" in a NAPLAN test, the family of the student is notified and the school also provides more necessary support, he said.
The representatives were not in favour of the proposal because there are widespread concerns it is not focusing on the needs of each student.
Mr Fitzgerald will attend the Australian Education Union South Australia branch meeting on Saturday and will take with him the meeting's concerns.
