Former Senator Meg Lees to speak at Zonta breakfast

01 Feb, 2010 11:30 PM
FORMER South Australian senator Meg Lees will be the guest speaker at Port Lincoln's third International Women's Day breakfast next month.

The Port Lincoln Zonta Club is hosting the breakfast on March 6, where the club will present its Women of Achievement Awards.

During the breakfast Ms Lees, a former physical education teacher, will speak about some of her personal history and key "road markers" that changed the direction her life would take.

She will speak publicly for the first time about some of her family history, which stretches back to the late 1700s in Australia, and her battle with cancer.

From a political perspective she will provide some insight about the background issues surrounding the GST negotiations while she was leader of the Democrats in the Senate.

Ms Lees married Matthew Mitchell 10 years ago and together they have a combined family of six children and one grandchild.

She is currently working as a freelance photographer and supporting her husband in his legal practice.

The awards breakfast will be at the Croatian Club on St Andrews Terrace on March 6 at 8am.

Tickets are $28 and bookings are essential, with the past two breakfasts selling out. Tickets are now available from Catherine Leis on 8683 4444.
