AUSSIE tennis star and world number 11 Sam Stosur was welcomed by an excited crowd in Port Lincoln on Tuesday.
In a whirlwind visit she officially opened Port Lincoln's newly resurfaced tennis courts in front of nearly 500 people.
She also handed over a cheque for $64,000 to the Port Lincoln Tennis Association on behalf of Tennis Australia to assist with the courts project.
"It's great to be here today for the opening of the new courts," Ms Stosur said.
"They look great, I could see the blue (courts) from the sky as we flew over.
"It's great to see so much enthusiasm for tennis today, the new courts should be a really good thing for the Port Lincoln community.
"There are tonnes of kids here today who might hopefully go home tonight and say they want to take up the sport."
She also thrilled spectators when she had a quick hit and super tie-break with local rising star Darren Polkinghorne.
The 16-year-old, who is ranked 90 in Australia for men, said he was "stoked" to have a hit against Stosur and it was something he wouldn't forget.
Ms Stosur then joined in a Hot Shots clinic for 60 lucky primary school students, followed by an impromptu hit with Port Adelaide Power football coaches Mark Williams and Gary Hocking who were in town for their AFL community camp.
After a seafood lunch at the Port Lincoln Hotel, Ms Stosur and her contingent went to a local tuna farm where she had a go at feeding the fish.
"I can't believe how big the tuna are, they're amazing," she said.
Port Lincoln Tennis Association president Julie Polkinghorne said she was wrapped with how the day had turned out.
"The courts look amazing but it's been a lot of work," Mrs Polkinghorne said.
"But to have a day like this is just so rewarding, to have Sam Stosur here, the people from Tennis Australia and all the kids, it's a real buzz."
The courts project had cost in excess of $200,000 with contributions from Tennis Australia, the Port Lincoln City Council and the tennis association.
