THE Port Lincoln City Council has taken the first step to starting a developer-funded Development Plan Amendment (DPA) to rezone the old BHP land for a residential development.
The developer, Port Lincoln Proper, wants to develop the land for housing and as a home for the local fishing industry but the development cannot go ahead until the land is rezoned.
Councillors this week approved a Statement of Intent for the DPA to be sent to the planning minister for approval.
The council supported the DPA after the original proposal was modified to cover a smaller piece of land, 118 hectares.
It still includes a combination of residential and industrial development.
