Lock 9/196 lost to Cowell 6/204
MARTIN Deer and Nathan Johnson led the way for Cowell in Eastern Eyre cricket with a stand of 143 to set up a win against Lock and Districts.
Johnson had earlier put in an outstanding bowling performance, taking three wickets from his seven overs, four of these maidens, for just seven runs.
Lock won the toss and elected to bat and Andrew Kelly and Neil Cummins put on 50 runs for the opening partnership.
Cummins was first to go, caught in slips by Geoff Starr for 20, Saul Tonkin making the breakthrough.
With the total on 61, Kelly departed for 27 as Tonkin picked up his second wicket.
Garry Siebert was Johnson's first victim, making eight, before being caught by Starr. Kerrin Siebert and Paul Pearce boosted the middle order, both getting amongst the runs.
Siebert top scored with a knock fo 44, falling to a catch by McFarlane off Justin Mills' bowling, supported by Pearce with 37, who was bowled by Johnson.
Mark Reynolds had come in at number six and was holding the innings together as three wickets fell quickly - David Bourne (0) became Johnson's third scalp, Tyson Kirvan (1) was trapped in front by Starr and Josh Dearman (0) was bowled by Tim Wiseman.
The last ball of the innings saw Reynolds run out for 22, with Travis Beard not out on four, as the total reached 196, with one wicket in hand.
Johnson was backed up by Tonkin with 2/38 from his 10 overs and Mills, Starr and Wiseman each took one.
Cowell had an opening stand of 29 before Dearman made the breakthrough to have Tonkin caught by Paul Pearce for 10.
Kerrin Siebert then claimed three wickets in a row and Cowell weren't in a good position at 4/37. McFarlane was caught behind by Travis Beard for eight, and Jake Klingberg (4) and Starr (0) were both dismissed LBW.
This brought Johnson to the crease with Deer and they set out on a rescue mission for Cowell. Hitting out they took the score to within sight of victory.
With 180 on the board, Johnson was bowled by Kelly for useful knock of 50.
The other wicket to fall was Clay Henderson, caught by Dearman at mid wicket off another Kelly delivery for one.
Deer and Piggot then batted to pass the score, Deer finishing with a valuable unbeaten innings of 74 and Piggot was not out on 12.
Kerrin Siebert bowled 10 overs for his 3/17, with Kelly taking 2/40 from his seven overs and Dearman picked up the other wicket to fall.
Colts
Lock 8/76 lost to Cowell 5/133
The colts match was the annual night game at Cowell, with the home side winning the toss and put the opposition into bat.
Lock and Districts lost early wickets and could not recover against the tight Cowell attack.
Opener Travis Beard was the outstanding batsman for Lock, retiring on 25, the only one to get to double figures.
John Dearman made eight before being caught by Kyle Wildman and Thomas Heath was trapped in front for two, both to Jarrod Schiller's bowling.
Brody Burrows (6) and Lachlan Sladdin (0) were dismissed by Todd Schumann, before Zac Crabb chipped in with Brett Northcott's wicket, caught by Alec Klingberg for five.
Ryan Siebert (0) was caught by Ben Sutton in Riley Mills' one over before Kyle Wildman claimed the other two wickets to fall.
Cain Reynolds (5) was also caught by Alec Klingberg and Brandon Sellen (0) was caught by Riley Mills.
Tim Reynolds retired on two, with the not out batsman Aaron Beard on two and the final score was eight for 76.
Todd Schumann bowled four overs to take 2/11, with Schiller finishing with 2/14 from his six overs. Wildman claimed 2/6 from two overs and Riley Mills and Crabb each took one.
Cowell also lost early wickets, with Josh Dearman picking up two, and Travis Beard one. Wycamp (2) was bowled, Schiller was bowled for six and Wiseman was LBW to Dearman for 14.
It was Jake Klingberg and Justin Mills who put the innings back on track, each retiring on 26, and Crabb made nine before retiring, as did Alec Klingberg on 13 to each boost the total.
Ryan Siebert had Ben Sutton bowled and Aaron Beard and Tim Reynolds combined to send Riley Mills on his way for two.
At the close of the innings, with the score on 5/133, the not out batsmen were Wildman on five and T. Schumann on one.
Dearman finished with the best figures of 2/17 from six overs, with single wicket takers Travis Beard, Ryan Siebert and Aaron Beard.
