Port Adelaide 7/181 def Eyre Peninsula 10/100
PORT Adelaide batsman Tim Ludeman smashed Port Adelaide to an 81-run win in the twenty/20 game at Centenary Oval in Port Lincoln on Sunday.
Port Adelaide were well contained by Eyre Peninsula for the first five overs before Eyre Peninsula had a breakthrough with Adam Dilly gone for 12, caught just inside the leg side boundary by Daniel Mitchell off the bowling of Joel Nagel to be 1/26 in the fifth over.
Mathew Weeks joined Tim Ludeman and things quickly changed in Port Adelaide's favour when the run rate of from the first five overs of 5.2 accelerated to 13.6 in the next five overs, with Ludeman frequently finding the boundary and Weeks making 20 of a 68-run partnership before being run out well short of his ground after a good return from Daniel Lee.
At two down for 96 runs Chatto joined Ludeman and the hunt for quick runs continued to flow until Ludeman on 73 was bowled by Smith in his second over.
The Redbacks' back up wicket keeper had given the crowd what they had come to see in the Iron Road Twenty/20 Country Bash by hitting two sixes and 11 boundaries in his 73 runs.
At three down for 116 in the 13th over Port Adelaide's run flow was halted when Shannon Larwood, in his third over, claimed the wickets of Chatto, caught by Luke Yancic for six, and Ben Walters was caught by Carl Jaeschke for 15 to be five down for 134 in the 15th over.
In the five overs Port Adelaide added 47 runs, ensuring that EP would have a massive run chase and require a run rate 9.05 to reach the target of 181.
Joel Nagel took another two wickets with Ben Parish caught by Jordan Telfer for 15 and Webber caught by Shannon Larwood for 15 to finish with 3/35 off his four overs.
Jack Carson (13) and Darryl Monger spent a short time at the crease without scoring batted out the compulsory 20 overs.
Eyre Peninsula needed a good start but it was anything but that with Mathew Weeks's first two overs yielding only two runs and Anthony Saccafien crashed the stumps of Brad Hazelgrove to see EP at one for one.
Ben Smith looked the part after finding the boundary but found the edge to be caught behind by Ludeman off the bowling of Saacafien for four and EP were now 2/5.
Daniel Mitchell became the day watchman as he witnessed Saccafien wreck all hopes of a good start when he had Carl Jaeschke again caught behind by Ludeman to see EP three down for nine runs by the end of the fourth over.
Sacaafien had captured the wickets of Hazelgrove, Smith and Jaeschke for only eight runs off two overs and unfortunately EP did not after the devestating start.
Weeks skittled the stumps of Luke Yancic and one stump was taken to the change rooms for treatment with Weeks taking 1/2 off three overs.
Adam Dilly was given the ball and the landslide of falling wickets continued when Dilley bowled Jordan Telfer for two and then James Bennett was caught before he bowled Wade O'Brien for no score while the day watchman, Daniel Mitchell, still watched the devastation with EP now at seven for 23 in the seventh over.
Daniel Lee joined Mithcell and they took on the might of Port Adelaide to entertain the supporters and put on a 42-run partnership before Daniel Mitchell, on 33 runs, was caught by Harvey off the bowling of Monger.
Larwood joined the Lee who went on to make 44 runs. With Larwood out for one, Lee finally fell to the bowling of Tim Ludeman who had taken the gloves off to join the bowling ranks and finish the day with one wicket for two runs, two catches behind the stumps and 73 runs as their opening batsman.
Remarkably the day started for Port Adelaide through Ludeman and finished with him.
The EP made the 100 run mark in what was a day of good cricket. It was well presented and all concerned on this day should be applauded for their contributions.
