Many twists and turns in Ramblers win

Ramblers 6/130 def Colts 7/118

RAMBLERS won the close and competitive game at Tumby Bay oval on Saturday in week two of matches in the Tumby Bay and District Association Twenty/20 competition.

Ramblers won the toss and elected to bat in humid conditions.

Milton and James shared a 32-run opening partnership before James was caught in the outfield by Damian Thompson off the bowling of Shane Pedemonte for a quick 25.

Joe Walker joined Milton and the pair took the score along to 57 before Pedemonte claimed his second wicket, clean bowling Walker for eight.

The in-form Damian Modra strode to the crease but his innings was short lived after he was deceived by a well-flighted ball from Andre Smith, and chopped the ball onto his stumps for only two.

Captain Damian Clark (8) was next to go, trying to lift the run rate but only succeeded in gifting Jack Kelly a simple catch at mid-off from the bowling of Craig Franks, the first of his two wickets.

Worse was to follow when Milton (29) was caught in the deep by Thompson off Jordan Hind and at 5/78 after 13 overs Ramblers were in a little trouble.

Filsell joined Allen and together the pair batted sensibly until Filsell was bowled by Craig Franks for five.

Tom Hennell, who had been in tremendous form with the bat in the lower grades, now had his chance to show his batting prowess at a higher level and he didn't disappoint. Teaming with Jordan Allen, the pair closed out the innings in fine style adding a valuable 33 runs in the last few overs of the power play and getting the team total up to a respectable 6/130, which would be considered a par score given the conditions with the outfield being slow.

Jordan Allen remained 28 not out and Hennell 19 not out. Best with the ball for Colts were Shane Pedemonte with 2/22 from four overs and Craig Franks 2/23 from four overs.

Colts started their run chase in positive fashion with Craig Franks and Jack Jacobs putting on 16 runs for the first wicket before Franks was well caught by Damian Modra off the bowling of Jordan Allen for 10.

Dawes joined Jacobs before the latter was comprehensively bowled by James for nine. At 2/33 off six overs the game was still evenly poised, and with Jacobs and new partner Shane Pedemonte, Colts were in sight of their victory target with the score building to 69 before the match turned with the dismissal of Pedemonte for 24 well caught in the deep by Tom Hennell off Clark.

When Jacobs followed in the next over for 15, cleaned bowled by Hennell, the game had swung in favour of Ramblers.

Thompson and Smith began to build a threatening partnership but the run rate was becoming an issue, and when Milton claimed the wicket of Thompson for 12 Colts had been reduced to 5/97 in the 17th over.

Things only got worse for Colts with Fredrickson being caught by Clark from the bowling of Filsell for four, and Smith also caught by Clark from the bowling of Milton for 14.

Some lusty hitting by Jordan Hind (14no) from the last over of the innings boosted Colts' score to 7/118 after the completion of 20 overs, just 12 short of their target.

The wickets were shared by the six Ramblers bowlers that were used, all of whom claimed at least one wicket.

Man-of-the-match honours went to Shane Pedemonte for his all round performance with bat and ball.

Jordan Allen did well with his valuable runs and the key wicket of Franks and Nigel James were also worthy of mention.

Next week Ramblers take on Rovers in a virtual grand final with Lipson and Colts, both of whom have yet to win a game, unable to claim victory in this year's competition regardless of the result of their match.
