Top spot up for grabs this week

Top spot up for grabs this week

04 Nov, 2009 11:30 PM
AT the end of the first five minor rounds top spot is up for grabs.

Southern Eyre South, Lincoln South and Charlton are all on three wins each after four rounds.

Southern Eyre South hold down top spot by virtue of their abandoned match against Wayback.

Lincoln South can claim top spot only if Charlton beat Southern Eyre South.

Charlton can claim top spot if they beat Southern Eyre South and Tasman beat Lincoln South.

Southern Eyre South will retain top spot if they beat Charlton, even if Lincoln South beat Tasman.

The early prediction is being played out that this season will see a tough, tight competition in shaping the top four.

Wayback are sitting in fourth spot with one and a draw over Tod River on one win.

Tod River are searching for their best; the talent is there and the big tip is they are not far off their best, which is yet to surface .

Tasman, as predicted, face a tough task of making the finals, but could play a part in shaping the final four with a couple of wins against any of the five other clubs.

If there ever was a season of upsets this season has all the indications that this will take place.

Old Bluey tipped SES, Wayback, Lincoln South and Charlton to finish the minor round season in that order

The early results suggest that any one of the four can win the premiership, but one is not jumping off the early prediction that SES will win the premiership.

Game change

As Centenary is still out of action, the Southern Eyre South versus Charlton B grade game will be played at Coffin Bay.

This means SES will have a double header of sorts and the rumour is that it will be a great time at the Coffin Bay Hotel afterward as both the A and B grades will head back there together.

Awards

Grand Tasman Legends Award

"Eight is enough" was a top rating family show in years past and the Southerners' Levi Smith may not remember the top rating TV show, but the safe bet is his mum and dad would.

Levi, in an astonishing and outstanding feat with the ball, took the first eight wickets to fall after opening batsman Paul Marshall was run out for five.

His strike rate was a wicket every 7.5 balls bowled at a run rate of 2.875 per wicket and as they say "it don't get any better than that."

Well bowled Levi and enjoy your night at the Grand Tasman where it's also as good as it gets.

Harry's Pizza Award

Robin Earl from the Tod River Club, better know as Bobby or in this case the "Duke of Dorward" has been given a new title this week and is crowned the "King of Dorward" with a knock out of an innings when he made a century and went on to make 142 out of a total of 287.

The River's David Hope with 44 runs and Peter McFarlane with 50 not out were part of one of the biggest scores made in B grade cricket.

So Bobby pop in and see Shannon and get a pizza fit for a king or a duke, well played mate.

Colts awards

Great Northern Hotel Award

Kirk Mortimer top scored with 18 for Charlton, while James Lakin, Tasman White and Rory Zippel, Lincoln South, top scored for their respective sides with 25 each.

The award this week goes to an all-round performance by Anthony Iannello from Charlton, who made 17 valuable runs.

He then opened the bowling and claimed two early wickets, bowling both his victims.

His figures were 2/5 at the end of play with his side being in a strong position.

Well done Anthony.

Coles Team Player Award

Bowlers dictated play this week.

Ryan Goldsworthy, Wayback, took 3/20 off five. Scott Forrest, Tasman Red, took 3/7 off six, and Buster Keeley from Todd River took 3/4 off three.

The award this week goes to Vasilios Karatzavalis from Wayback who also took 3/4 off his three overs, taking three top order batsmen to also put his side in a strong position.

Well done Vasilios.

B grade program.

SES v Charlton: Coffin Bay. Wayback v Tod River: high school umpire Roy Todd. Lincoln South v Tasman: Ravendale.
