Lincoln South 10/190 def Wayback 10/116
THIS contest was expected to a closely fought match, but South came away with a comfortable win.
Lincoln South captain Greg Symonds got them off to a good start by winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Steve Orchard and Brayden Traeger walked to the crease to face the out of form opening Wayback bowlers of Nathan Wright and Jock Hollitt and got off to a reasonable start until both bowlers got their first wickets of the season dismissing Traeger, caught for two and Symonds, caught behind for seven.
Shaun Hancock joined Orchard to put on 44-run partnership before Hancock (26) popped one back to bowler, Paul Newman during the last over before drinks.
After drinks, South continued their steady progress towards a large total but couldn't stop the loss of a wicket just as a partnership started to threaten.
A controlled innings from S. Orchard (47) and Craig Reidy (43) saw South make a competitive total of 190.
They were assisted well with the bat by Nathan Sincock (18), Jacob Harvey (13) and Jayden Lloyd (13).
Best with the ball for Wayback was Paul Newman and Nathan Wright, both taking three wickets.
In a similar start to the innings as South, Wayback openers Daniel Mitchell and Lachlan Hollit looked to have started well before Mitchell was well caught low down by Traeger in the covers on 11, and then followed up his good work by running out the dangerous Andrew Woolford (1) after he was caught in the middle of the pitch.
It got worse for Wayback when Hollitt (20) and Troy Sargeant (2) were both caught well by Nathan Sincock. And when Paul Newman (11) chased a wide one from Reidy in the over before drinks, the chasing side were in trouble at 5/54.
Some lower batting resistance by Ryan Walsh (23), Nathan Wright (13) and Jock Hollit (8 no) saw Wayback get over the team hundred and they were never in the hunt to chase down South's total.
Best with the ball were both openers, Shane Stockham and Damien Critchley bowling their overs straight out with the figures of 10 overs, four maidens 1/15, and 10 overs 2/28 respectively. Aaron Sincock also chipped in with two wickets off his nine overs.
