Wayback 4/311 def Tasman 10/124
WAYBACK Batsman Andrew Woolford smashed 151 not out during his side's mammoth win over Tasman at Ravendale on Saturday.
Beautiful conditions greeted players, Waybacks keen to continue their winning form into a possible finals appearance and Tasman keen to upset another team in their quest for a second win.
Tasman won the toss and after a short delay elected to bowl first, hoping to chase down a total two weeks in a row.
Wayback, happy to bat first, lost their smiles within three overs as opener Lands poked at a good ball on its way through to keeper.
But Lands was to be the only batter to miss out as Woolford came to the crease and wasn't in the mood to leave.
However, it was Mitchell that stole the limelight early, hitting the ball sweetly on his way to another 50. Mitchell and Woolford had formed an 83-run partnership when Mitchell danced down the wicket to Shanley and was stumped by Colin Murdoch in the 23rd over.
Sargeant came to the crease and wasted no time in continuing the run rate. At drinks Wayback were sitting at 2/99 in a promising position, but unaware of how damaging it would be.
Wayback's batting line up of Sargeant (37), Newman (30) and Jock Hollitt (28 not out) assisted Woolford in partnerships of 73, 74 and 74 respectively, smashing the next 25 overs for 212 runs.
But it was Woolford's day, hitting 14 fours and seven sixes on his way to an unbeaten 151, taking Wayback to 4/311 from their 50 overs.
His innings is understood to be the highest score by any Wayback cricketer in a 50 over match. Well done Andrew.
Best with the ball was Rob Murdoch with 2/54 of 10 and good efforts came from Forrest with 0/27 off seven, and Shanley with 1/31 off five.
Tasman's opening pair of Rob Murdoch and Stanley decided to continue with the hard hitting and throw caution to the wind.
Early misses in the field helped their cause as they took to the new ball bowlers.
Shanley timed the ball well, hitting two early sixes and when Sargeant came on to bowl in the seventh over, Tasman had hit 46 runs to be motoring nicely towards the big Wayback total.
The pair was soon split when Sargeant, in his second over, got through Shanley to bowl him for 22.
Smith came to the crease with runs in mind, hitting strongly down the ground, but was also bowled by Sargeant in his third over for 11.
Within the next four overs Tasman lost 4/12. This all but squashed any hope they had.
Colt and year 9 student R. Haines joined Rob Murdoch in the middle and was the highlight for the Tasman team.
He showed that he has a very promising future with poise, maturity and a good defence on his way to a well made 15 not out.
Haines and Murdoch joined for a 26-run partnership as Murdoch continued his good form with a well made 43, pushing the ball around the ground, working well with his junior, but as he tried to increase the scoring rate he had his stumps rearranged.
This signalled the end as the next three wickets fell cheaply four overs after drinks.
Best with the ball was Sargeant with 3/23 off 10 and Lachlan Hollitt with 2/11 off three.
This game will be remembered with fondness by the Wayback Cricket Club for some time to come.
