THE Tasman Football Club has welcomed new A grade coach Carl Semmler with hopes he will strengthen and develop the young side.
Semmler will be a playing coach and said he hoped to help the Roosters reach their full potential.
The talented goalkicker spent the last three years playing at Marble Range and this year captained the side, which reached the grand final but finished runner-up to Mallee Park.
The Roosters this year however won the wooden spoon and Semmler said he would do all he could to avoid that again.
"Coaching Tasmans will be a good challenge, especially with the list of players they had.
"I plan to develop the young side and help them reach their full potential."
Semmler got a taste of coaching last season and said he enjoyed coaching the Marble Range under 17 team.
He is also a highly revered player and spends a lot of time up forward.
He is known as a leader on and off the field and was a member of the Port Lincoln team that claimed Mortlock Shield victory this year - jointly winning the leading goalkicker trophy for the carnival.
Semmler said he would put a lot of emphasis on fitness with Tasman this year as well as creating more of a team atmosphere.
"Hopefully we can improve on results, I don't want to think too far ahead, but making finals would be a realistic goal for us this year," he said.
The Roosters will have a few runs before Christmas and start training a bit harder in January.
"On a club aspect, it would be great to see all past and present Tasman supporters really support the club this year and try and get it to a place where people want to be," Semmler said.
Before Marble Range, Semmler spent a few years playing for Keith in the South East, and prior that some junior and senior footy at the Port Adelaide Football Club.
