THE new Port Lincoln Football League board met for the first time last Wednesday night.
The board has been appointed to oversee the operations of the league, which is a significant departure from former league management by a president and a committee of delegates representing each member club.
The Port Lincoln Football Association was originally formed in 1910 with three member clubs - Lincoln South, Tasman and Wayback. A league was subsequently established in later years, which included Marble Range in the senior division in 1956, Boston in 1972 and Mallee Park in 1980.
At its first meeting newly appointed board chair Rod Patterson thanked outgoing president Peter Tokarski for his tireless efforts throughout the past year in creating a new league constitution to establish the board.
Mr Tokarski also agreed to assist the new board as temporary operations manager until that position is filled by a suitable candidate.
Mr Patterson said that transition to control by the new board will be smooth, but warned that the start of any football season was challenging and could only be achieved by a lot of hard work by the volunteers associated with the member clubs.
The board itself has been active in developing this season's match program and inter-league commitments as well as mandatory budget considerations.
The inaugural members of the 2012 board are confident for a successful year for the league and will work to build creative and positive relations with member clubs.
