Marble Range v Tasman, Wangary Oval, Sunday
BOTH clubs have lost significant players but as both coaches - Peter West for the Rangers and Ron Evans for the Roosters - would say, it gives other players their chance.
Both have a good list of experienced players with a very exciting group of young players coming through the grades, and while supporters may not see the best of their respective clubs in the early rounds, this game could again see a nail-biter as their pre-season game was, when the Rangers won by only three points.
Marble Range will look for the experience of Todd Owen, Michael Sargent, Levi Smith, Chad Owen and Steven Tokarski to lead the exceptional list of the young players in Landon Gregory, Jake Sampson, Callan Skinner, Boyd West and Daniel Swaffer.
New players are not known at this time but one thing is certain under coach Peter West, a Marble Range premiership coach, he will be working on his "mixed bag" to get the structure right, and with the prolific forward play of Carl Semmler, the effort to get the ball out of the midfield up forward will become a major part of the coach's game plan.
The Roosters have also lost several leading players and coach Ron Evans has always stated that promoting the colts through to league is the future of the club.
Captain Matt James appears to have passed an injury prone season with nagging injuries, and with Peter Davey and Michael Kilsby in the midfield, they will be the drive needed to get the ball moving quickly up forward to Jarred Christian, who is looking the real deal this season, Brett Cunningham, who kicked five goals against the Rangers in the pre-season game, the highly ranked Ross Campbell, and Matt Parker at centre half forward. Down the track the return of Glen Tonkin will give the Roosters a further boost up forward.
Craig Reincke will be the leader of the back half with likes of the young Roosters in Ben Daniels, Jarred Milton and Nathan and Josh Frost, also under consideration to play, not necessarily in the back half, but to play.
The Roosters will be competitive at the centre bounce and the stoppages with Jake Stolle expected to be the number one ruckman and the tall Michael Orbons leaving no doubt that they are seriously future league players
Others in the Tasman revolving promotion of the young players will see Porta Dowd and Coby Collins given their chance.
Tip: old Blue will stick his neck out on the chopping block and hope he can still crow after the game. Roosters to win.
