Great Flinders football
RAMBLERS are fairly and squarely back on target with their big win over Lock at Cummins on Saturday.
This has helped make up for their loss to Eyre United the week prior, a loss that made them play harder and use the ball better this week.
Simon Pedler was back, which strengthened the side, and Shawn Fitzgerald had the ball on a string.
Lock started off best with the first goal from Gary Hetzel, but this was quickly turned by an Andrew Crettenden goal for Ramblers.
Lock were a bit undisciplined, enabling Ramblers to kick away through Cody Pilgrim and James Cutteford.
Lock regrouped with goals to Kerran Glover and Luke Northcott before the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was a goal for goal event with Isaac Halman for Lock doing a lot of work around the ground and James Minhard for Ramblers winning most of the rucks.
But it was the third quarter that decided the outcome of this match with Ramblers kicking eight goals to Lock’s three, some good work coming from Adam Haarsma, Jim Holman and Shawn Fitzgerald.
Ramblers coach Pedler then asked his team at the three quarter break to finish off even stronger, of which they tried but some missed goal opportunities meant they only just won the last quarter.
At the final siren Ramblers’ match tally saw Shawn Fitzgerald with six goals, with help from Cody Pilgrim with four, and Jim Holman with three.
Lock were missing some players including Craig Wheare and Chris Pearce, but even these players would not have got them over the line.
Isaac Halman, Matthew Mellor, Gary Hetzel and Luke Northcott had a fair bit of the ball in the first half but couldn’t sustain this for the whole game.
Kerran Glover was Lock’s key goal kicker with six.
Ramblers had a lot more workhorses with James Minhard in ruck, Tyson Mickan and Jim Holman to name a few.
The umpiring was fairly good considering there was a first time A grade umpire giving it a go; keep up the good work Pearcy.
