PORT Lincoln volunteer Julie Chambers has been awarded the Hockey SA Senior Volunteer of the Year award at a ceremony last month in Adelaide.
She is the first ever country association winner of the award and is most deserved.
Julie is the secretary and records and fixtures officer for Port Lincoln Hockey Association and was nominated by president Andrea Broadfoot.
She is a dedicated volunteer for Port Lincoln Hockey Association and also a member of Marauders Hockey Club and was nominated for her association volunteering.
As well as secretary of the association, she is also records and fixtures officer. She is the key point of contact for all things hockey in Port Lincoln.
Hockey each weekend starts at 4pm on Fridays when Julie oversees the Minkey competition involving 40 kids and up to four coaches. She then mans the office while senior games are played Friday nights and is a regular volunteer as bar person and waitress for Ravendale Community Sporting Complex.
On Saturdays, Julie again opens the office and spends the entire day coordinating results, communicating with umpires and ensuring bylaws are understood by clubs.
She willingly answers any queries and is the main source of information, promotion and support for the four hockey clubs in the association and often works up to 18 hours on a Saturday.
Julie has been involved with hockey in Port Lincoln for more than 25 years in various roles, and is the backbone of the sport in Port Lincoln.
She also coordinates communication with Hockey SA and among PLHA members to ensure everything runs smoothly.
The association is indebted to her tireless efforts to provide a high standard of integrity, clarity and service in her roles within Port Lincoln Hockey Association.
