Big shift for summer hockey

26 Nov, 2009 12:30 AM
KIM Blatchford liked the sound of the hockey program in Port Lincoln so much, she relocated from the Barossa to Eyre Peninsula for the summer.

The 18-year-old from Nuriootpa met Port Lincoln hockey coach Phill Foreman at a hockey tournament earlier this year.

Foreman was coaching the South Australian team that Miss Blatchford played in.

Miss Blatchford's aim is to make the State Country Under 21 team next year and Foreman is helping her reach her potential.

To do this, Miss Blatchford has moved to Port Lincoln for six months over summer to take part in Port Lincoln's hockey Regional Centre of Excellence program.

"This just shows a huge commitment from a young person and shows how much she thinks of the program we offer here," Foreman said.

Miss Blatchford, who has just finished Year 12, has picked up some casual work in Port Lincoln and will fit this around her six days a week training schedule.
