Hockey nationals in Port Lincoln

16 Nov, 2009 11:30 PM
PORT Lincoln is getting a rare opportunity to host a national hockey tournament next year.

South Australia was due to host the 2010 Australian Under 18 Women's Hockey Championships, which are normally held in capital cities, but because the pitch at the Pines in Adelaide is being resurfaced Hockey SA decide to move the event to a regional area.

Hockey SA general manager Christine Robertson said it could have been moved to a different venue in Adelaide but it was a good opportunity to take it to a regional area, "which is almost unheard of".

Ms Robertson visited Port Lincoln two weeks ago to look at the suitability for the championships and it was confirmed as the venue last week.

Teams from all six States and two territories will compete in Port Lincoln from April 13 to 24, 2010.
