THE 2010 Port Lincoln Cup Carnival is an exciting week of events and popular functions centered around two exhilarating days of thoroughbred racing.
The committee of the Port Lincoln Racing Club has gone all out to provide a wide and diverse range of entertainment for visitors throughout cup week, for your enjoyment and pleasure.
For those visitors venturing to the carnival for the first time, you're in for the time of your life and a memorable one.
Monday, March 1
Welcome night at the Marina Hotel. An invitation to join Port Lincoln Race Club chairman Peter Kemp and the club committee for a Boardwalk Welcome at the spectacular Marina Hotel from 6.30pm. Great ranges of dining options are available for guests and patrons to enjoy from the hotel's popular menu.
Tuesday, March 2
One event not to be missed, and a highlight of each cup carnival is the first of two champagne breakfasts at Ravendale Park racecourse from 7.15am to 9am courtesy of the Port Lincoln Racing Club. A full range of favourite Aussie barbecue assortments with plenty of bubbly will kick start the first day of racing.
The club chairman and committee members are your breakfast chefs for this popular morning cook off.
Racing starts at Ravendale at about noon and you'll enjoy the relaxed style of racing on offer.
At the completion of the day's racing the local hotels, clubs and restaurants offer a range of entertainment for the many visitors who have ventured to Port Lincoln on cup week.
A night to enjoy the city's popular night spots at your own pace and leisure.
Wednesday, March 3
The Port Lincoln experience awaits with a wide range of activities arranged for you.
Every consideration has been given for the visitor to enjoy their stay while in Port Lincoln.
For the golfing enthusiast The Yalumba Golf Classic will be staged at the picturesque 18-hole Port Lincoln Golf course on Flinders Highway. Cup week visitors can partake in a stableford event, with a selection of fabulous prizes to be won on the day, compliments of Yalumba.
Tee off starts at 10am on the day. Golfers are requested to bring their own golf clubs, as there are limited numbers available for hire from the clubhouse. Contact the Port Lincoln Golf Club on 8682 1352 for further information.
Another highlight of the club's cup carnival is the now famous Bush Barbecue at the recently completed Peninsula Club at Point Boston Peninsula, the only venue on the Eyre Peninsula located right on the foreshore at Point Boston.
Sponsored by Carlton Draught, this very popular function allows you the opportunity to mix with race club officials, committee members, club members, owners, trainers, and visitors to the 2010 cup carnival.
Cost is $25 per head and available from the race club or at the venue on the day. Contact the club for bus details or directions for those wishing to travel by vehicle.
Thursday, March 4
It's off to the early morning workout at Ravendale Park racecourse for the second of the popular champagne breakfasts courtesy of the Port Lincoln Racing Club from 7.15am to 9am.
With the week in full swing and the talk of the possible winners during cup day at a premium, it's an ideal time to catch the latest information from the track. Mix with the local owners, trainers and visitors and toast the coming fortunes of the day.
The races start at noon and a full day's racing is ahead, featuring the 2010 Carlton Draught Port Lincoln Cup.
Cup day is always a special day for all in attendance and look for the parade of women's and men's fashions presented during the afternoon.
