TRACK side is the place to be this Sunday as the Port Lincoln Racing Club hosts a family day race meeting.
Expect the Simon Drewitt stable to be in the winner's circle during the day - Miaconi and Reliable Tradesman will be fancied runners and Canophyta and Rodeto can improve sharply in the 1750 metre race.
The best bet on the day looks to be Amen's Sea as I liked the way she attacked the line at her previous outing. Moxie Miss will be hard to beat again and Shiny Mighty can dictate terms in a modest 0-58 handicap.
Rating 0-83 Handicap 1250m
Amen's Sea has returned in good order this season for trainer Ross Lyons and looks suited over the 1250 metres. Her two runs in have produced two seconds over the unsuitable 1000 metre trip behind speedsters Hands Of Stone and Boy John.
Fighting Fury and Taloora Hula will ensure a solid tempo and will give a good account of themselves but I just thought Amen's Sea might be able to just sit of the speed and be too strong late in the race.
Tips: Amen's Sea 1, Taloora Hula 2, Fighting Fury 3.
Rating 0-68 Handicap 1750m
Strategic Design has been in work a long time but he won over Sea Factor earlier this year over this trip, and in a race that has no stand-outs he has to be considered.
Rodeto was very disappointing last start but he should appreciate this distance and this class. Stella's Pearl defeated Moxie Miss over 1000 metres last start; she looks a horse with scope for improvement but this is a big step up in distance second up.
Canophyta at her best would be a great chance in a race like this and Our Paternoster can cause an upset in a race that looks difficult to read.
Tips: Strategic Design 1, Canophyta 2, Rodeto 3.
Fillies and Mares 0-68 Handicap 1350m
Schlider has been around the mark of late for trainer Julie Branford. She finished on the heels of the place-getters last start behind One Sox Tess and at good each-way odds is the top selection.
Kooda Surprise, with the right run in transit, can finish with a placing, Firer Me finished along side Schlider last outing and Pass the Ace is a late nomination. This filly will be in it for a long way, but may be vulnerable late.
Tips: Schlider 1, Pass the Ace 2, Firer Me 3.
Rating 0-68 Handicap 1000m
Moxie Miss won with authority last Friday and can continue her good form here, expect her to start a short priced favourite and duly salute.
Hightom is a three-year-old with some upside, can he give Moxie Miss a start and beat her? It is doubtful on this occasion.
Toolora Starr is the other major player, she is going well this time in and has trained on nicely since her last start victory.
Tips: Moxie Miss 1, Toolora Starr 2, Hightom 3.
Rating 0-61 Handicap 1200m
Ziparoo is ready to win. After a tough first up run where he covered a lot of ground he then ran a game second to the inform Moxie Miss and that form will stand up.
Rebuke won first-up last preparation and I would be keeping her safe.
Crammond has to rate a chance on what we have seen this season, his two runs in better events behind Fighting Fury have been good pointers for a race of this nature.
Low Cut is better than what we saw last start - do not write her off yet.
Tips: Ziparoo 1, Crammond 2, Low Cut 3.
Three-Year-Old Class 1 1200m
Miaconi has overcome her issues this season, this filly can take a forward position and tough it out to the line as indicated last start with a terrific second over this trip.
Takookachook and Heart Of Stone are the other two major contenders, there looks little between them and early jostling for positions will be vital in the outcome.
Achenar is a runner that can be in the mix early but doubts remain whether he can run a strong six at this stage.
Tips: Miaconi 1, Heart Of Stone 2, Takookachook 3.
0-58 Rating Handicap 1350m
Shiny Mighty looks well placed here by trainer David Page. Looking the only one with genuine early speed, if he can get his way in front then this opposition will have big trouble trying to run him down.
Black Whiskey needs a soft run in transit to feature, Puraking hasn't been disgraced in his two runs in and Arazi Sea might develop into a nice staying type.
Tips: Shiny Mighty 1, Black Whiskey 2, Puraking 3.
Maiden 1200m
Doesn't look like too much depth here and on exposed form you can narrow it down to only two winning chances.
Reliable Tradesman had no luck last start, ridden aggressively he was posted three-wide and didn't finish off as expected. With even luck he will be in the finish.
Kooda Diva should appreciate the 1200 on the way she found the line last start and Littlejade has to come into calculations as she beat home Reliable Tradesman last start.
Tips: Relaible Tradesman 1, Kooda Diva 2, Littlejade 3.
Final fields will be declared today.
