Kirton team wins seafood classic

06 Feb, 2012 11:30 PM
--THE 15th Seafood Classic Event was held on January 28 and 29 at the Port Lincoln Bowling Club.

One hundred and 12 bowlers attended the tournament from all parts of South Australia playing off for $5200 in prize money.

The 28 teams participated in qualifying rounds on the Saturday and after results were collated the teams were split into the classic (top eight teams) and the plate (remaining 20 teams) for Sunday's play.

The top eight skippers from Saturday's qualifying rounds were Phil McDonald (Adelaide), Daryl Hage (Kirton), Neill Pedler (Cummins), Chris Schrapel (Whyalla Golf), Gerald Perone (Port Lincoln), Gary Schreiber (Port Lincoln), Robert Udy (Cowell) and Kym Schumacher (Port Lincoln).

Winners of the 15th Port Lincoln Seafood Classic were the Kirton team of Daryl Hage, Max Anderson, Adrian Hurrell and Tom Kontis by one shot over Port Lincoln's Gary Schreiber, Graham Schaedel, Paul Reincke and Kym Wakefield.

The plate winners were Cliff Edmunds, Damon Edmunds, Reg Brown and Mark Wrigley from Streaky Bay.

This event was generously sponsored by Marnikol Fisheries, Ron and Cynthia Waller, Port Lincoln Sportscene Super Warehouse, Grand Tasman Hotel and West End and the club thanked the sponsors for their continued support.

Thanks also went to the members who volunteered their services over the weekend to help make this tournament the success it was.

The club looks forward to being bigger and better in 2013 with three greens again and the ability to field 160 bowlers or 40 teams.
