Jared and Chelsea top Lincoln gymnasts

16 Nov, 2009 11:30 PM
THE Port Lincoln Gymnastics Club was buzzing with excitement on Sunday, November 1 as the annual trophy presentation got underway.

All Kindergymnastics, General Gym, Men's Artistic Gymnasts levels 1 to 4 and Women's Artistic levels 1 to 5 were awarded participation medals, bejewelled with the Olympic flame and club logo.

Individual coaches' trophies were awarded to the following gymnasts: general gymnastics: Kimaya Dhaliwal, Torren Quinn; men's artistic: level 1: Damon Milledge; level 2: Kosta Karatzovalis; level 3/4: Lucas Anderson.

Women's artistic: level 1: Grace Blacker, Jamie Lee Ford; level 2: Grace Franco, Mariah Fox; level 3: Skye Wright; level 4: Chantelle Boxer; level 5: Chloe Meyers.

Certificates were awarded to Jacinta Pitman and Alana Jantke for their individual efforts this year.

Perpetual trophies are awarded to male and female gymnasts who exhibit dedication to gymnastics, are good role models and always maintain a positive attitude.

Best male gymnast went to Jared Dodd and best female gymnast went for the second time to Chelsea Dunn.

Highest point scorer trophies recognise the male and female gymnast with the highest average competition point score during the year.

The boys competed in only two competitions this year: Port Lincoln in May and the SA Country Championships in Adelaide in June, with less than one point between the top three competitors. Jarrad Seaman competed at Port Lincoln and scored 52.350.

The girls this year had a choice to compete in three competitions: Port Lincoln, SA Country Champs and Port Pirie in September, again less than one point separated the top three gymnasts. Chloe Meyers competed all three comps and achieved the highest average score of 54.045.

The annual general meeting was also held at the club and was done and dusted in record time.

A new president has been elected in David Edwards.

He is a current WAG coach and has three children moving through classes at the club.

Vice president is Jo Fox; treasurer: Deb Wilson; grants officer: Pauline Dodd; member protection officer: Alison Parker; committee members: Sandra Balek, Teresa Meyers, Kristy Strykarschi, Mel Dunn and Narelle Scafidi.

Many thanks go to outgoing president Janice Jones for her contributions to the club over the past four years, also to committee member Lisa Henderson who is retiring her position.

The club is now gearing up for its annual Christmas show with this year's theme 'the Four Seasons'. December 6 is the date to mark in your diary.

From blowflies to lifesavers, bush barbies to ice queens, this year's show is generating new life into classes.

Special guests this year will be State coach and international judge Paul Szyjko accompanied by Ben Congedi (14) ranked fifth at national under 15s and is on the under 15 national squad, and Clay Stephens (12). Clay in 2009 has won the SA, Vic and national under 12 titles.

Ben and Clay will display their title winning performances at this year's function.

The Four Seasons theme will continue through to the club representation in the 2010 Tunarama street procession.

This year's truck will be buzzing with the sounds of the seasons - mainly flies!
