Port Lincoln girls among the best gymnasts

02 Dec, 2009 11:30 PM
THE Port Lincoln community produces many elite athletes from a wide variety of sports and the Port Lincoln Gymnastics Club has now joined the ranks with Chloe Meyers, and Kodi and Demi Mundy members of the SA State training squad, Generation Next.

The girls have been travelling to Adelaide every month since April to train as part of this pilot project by Gymnastics SA.

They underwent rigorous core strength, stamina and flexibility testing and also had to meet age and ability requirements to make the team.

Thirty-eight South Australian girls were recognised and accepted into the squad to train under State and National coaches who volunteer their time to support the young gymnasts in their quest to represent the State.

Chloe, Demi and Kodi have now experienced gymnastics at a new level training at various clubs in Adelaide over the past year.

The girls commented on how much they enjoyed the trainings, hard as they have been, also meeting new friends and learning new skills.

The Generation Next program will again be open to all gymnasts meeting the specific requirements.

Demi, at age 12, will be too old and ineligible but will continue a program locally, still passionate about competing in the future.

Chloe and Kodi will front up again for testing next year along with other up and coming gymnasts.

Sponsorship and support will be high on the agenda if Port Lincoln gymnasts are accepted into the program in 2010.
