LOCAL swimmers Luke Andrews and Kyle Chalmers both achieved personal best times representing St Joseph's School and South Australia at the "Australian Swimming and Diving Championships" earlier this month.
The opening ceremony at Challenge Stadium in Perth, brought together 664 competitors from five states marching out in their teams with the excitement and pride evident in the faces of all of the kids.
South Australia had a squad of 27 swimmers
The students ranged in age from 10 to 19 years.
Luke and Kyle both achieved personal best times in their events, a great acknowledgement of their hard work and dedication leading up to this carnival.
A big thank you is extended to their coach Carol Veldhuzen for her commitment and input into preparing the boys for this event.
Kyle made the 50 metre butterfly final and ranked fifth overall in his age group.
It was an amazing opportunity for the boys to compete at the highest level against the best in the country.
On the last day of the championships Kyle was presented with a School Sport Australia Sportsmanship Award, recognising his outstanding integrity, sportsmanship and ideals of fair play.
The recipients are nominated by officials, managers and event administration for this prestigious honour.
