Bluey's 2013 Team of the Year

THE Legends team of 2013 is not an official team of the Port Lincoln Football League it is a team selected by yours truly, honouring those From the Bench believes are worthy of being named.

Playing coach Carl Semmler has been named legend of the season for 2013 after coaching the Tasman Roosters to back to back premierships.

As playing coach, Carl Semmler is the first coach to take the Roosters to back to back premierships in the club's history.

Carl, besides being an elite SA Country player, has shown extraordinary leadership skills and is respected not only for his coaching skills but also his demeanour in the way he represents the game, the club and team-mates. That's enough to hang any player's hat on.

Congratulations Carl on an outstanding effort for seasons 2012 and 2013 and for joining the legends of the season.

2013 legends team

The legends team of 2013 may not please everyone but they could not argue the team is strong across all lines and has the players to present an all game structure with quality rotations off the bench - an absolute necessity in the game today.

The rotations off the bench give the midfield 10 to 12 players between half back and half forward that have all the skills, both sides of the body, who can run and carry.

Their use of the ball either hitting targets forward of the ball or bring running players into the game is there for all to see.

The back half, led by Aisea Raikiwasa, Rory Hunt and Jared Seal and with the last line of defence in Christian Dorward, Craig Reincke and Ben Sampson are strong in the air and on the ground.

They have the power to run the ball out, are all well known tacklers and are tough in the hard ball contest

The rucks led by Cody Mason and Jared Seal with the 2013 Rising Star Rhys Kelsh off the bench will be prominent all over the ground.

Up forward the team has the big markers and quality goal kickers Johann Wagner, Ben Kayser and Matt Parker with Shaun Maxwell at centre half forward who will push down through the midfield.

The in and out games of flankers Carl Semmler and Dale Montgomerie will be valuable setting up goals.

The midfield, led by number one ruckman Cody Mason with the on ball brigade of Reece Francis, Paul White, Josh Seal, is all elite players with all the skills to move the ball quickly at the centre bounce and stoppages.

Add to this the leg speed, evasive running and ball handling skills of Delehay Miller and Peter Lindsay off the wings who run hard both ways.

The bench with third ruckman Rhys Kelsh, Kingsley Bilney Jnr, Kynan Betts and Mitch Hall can all play off the half forward or half back or go on the ball.

The coaching bench for 2013 is Scott Clarke and Michael Williams with Carl Semmler as playing coach. Reece Francis has been appointed captain.

The selected team offers plenty of options to rotate or change positions and it is a team that can apply constant pressure all over the ground.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and team manager David Buckland on being named in the legends team of 2013.
