PORT Lincoln Tennis player Darren Polkinghorne will have an international tennis ranking after performing well at a tournament in Margaret River.
He had one of the biggest wins of his career over Chris Watson 6-1 7-5 in qualifying in the ITF event.
After winning through qualifying in his last three events but being unable to advance any further, this event was different with Polkinghorne able to go one step further, winning 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in his first round singles match against Matt Langley, who is his doubles partner.
This means Polkinghorne will have an international men's ranking, which is a big progression from having a junior ranking.
Langley and Polkinghorne also won their first round match in the doubles against Thomas and Polmans.
In the next round they will be up against Jacob Grills and Daniel Guccione with the winner booking a spot in the semi final.
Not only will this help Polkinghorne's Australian ranking, it will also help him to go into main draw International Tennis Federation (ITF) events without having to qualifying.
Polkinghorne's next singles match will be today when he will be up against either Leeder Chard or Barton, both experienced ITF players.
