Tasman 6-9 (45) def Boston 3-3 (21)

THE Tasman Roosters’ 24-point win was a much closer game than the scoreboard suggested.

The skills under continued pressure were a credit to the coaches and players.

With both back halves on top more often than not, the forwards had to work hard and the midfield battle was one to relish.

In the first quarter the Roosters got the ball forward with efficiency but only managed one goal by Jacob Collins.

The Tigers’ goal came through good work by Blake Staunton and Levi Brown for Darnell Richards to get the the two flags waving.

In the second quarter, the Tigers kicked two points to the Roosters one to be tied on eight points at the break.

The premiership quarter saw the Roosters finish off when they got the ball forward to kick three goals.

The Roosters’ Levi Brown was in the thick of it with captain Andrew James and Harry Haebich finding plenty of the footy.

Sean Ambrose kicked the first of three unanswered goals with Tyson Pedro and Sonny Puglisi joining the goal kicking list and at the same time keeping the Tigers at bay.

Boston failed to add to their half-time score and with the aid of four points the Roosters led by 22 points at the last break.

It was one of those quarters with the momentum going with one side then the other as the ball went from end to end, raising their supporters hopes.

Both back halves were under pressure with both midfield players pushing hard in the contest to get the ball forward.

The game had tightened up with plenty of pressure by both teams from the midfield and at both ends.

The last quarter was again evenly contested on the scoreboard with both teams kicking two goals each but Tasman ran out winners by 24 points to win the 2016 under 17 premiership.

Best for the Roosters was Levi Brown who played behind the ball and his run through the midfield added to their momentum to get the ball forward.
