Probus ladies recall style from the 1970s

Much thought and planning was put into deciding on a ‘back to the 70’s’ theme to celebrate 40 years of Probus in Australia, recalling fashions and life in Australia at that time.

Venue decorations set the tone and thanks to a very creative member, a large profile of a colourful combi van took pride of place.

It was decorated with peace signs, flowers and the open windows allowed members to have photos taken peering out.

Peace signs and old LP record jackets dangled from the ceiling and the tables were decorated with colourful placemats, which were topped with old LP records.

This led to much discussion about the artists who featured on the records.

A ‘blast from the past’ was the oranges complete with toothpicks and cocktail onions and cheese.

Each guest became owner of a pet rock with instructions on how to care for it.

During a meal break a fashion parade, which involved 54 members, was conducted on a red carpet. Members had a choice of dressing in 70s apparel or wearing red.

The compere described each outfit from notes the models had written, which led to much laughter.

The three members who received their 10-year pins took part in lighting the birthday cake candles, fanning them out and cutting the cake.
