Good scores despite heat

Saturday, January 7

Warm and muggy weather did not deter 84 players, including visitors from Twin Creeks, Echunga and Marion Park, from hitting off in a par competition, sponsored by Daniells Recycling Centre.

Brett Davies was the A grade winner with +4 from Simon Bell with +3.

B grade winner was Mark Cooper with +6 on a count-back from Greg Barry.

Best score of the day by far was from Kevin Reidy, +9, from Tony Manuel, +5.

Run-down ball sweep winners were Kane Williams, +6, Bill Healey, +4, and Paul Polkinghorne, Dave Sargent, Jordy Chilman and John Cheriton, all +2.

Greg Cotton eagled the first hole and took home quite a few “eggs” from the Commonwealth Bank’s Eagles’ Nest.

Birdies were plentiful – John Cheriton, Andrew Tiller, Graeme Dyke, Dean Weatherspoon and Juri Berzins and nearest the pin (NTP) winners were Greg Cotton, Juri Berzins, Paul McEvoy, Warren Rosman, Graeme Dyke and Wayne Macksad. Kevin Reidy took out the Clubhouse Leader’s Award.

The ladies’ winner was Helen George, -2, from Liz Weatherspoon on a count-back from Val Sharrad, -3.

Thursday, January 5

Eighteen ladies played a par competition, won by Ellie Hyde, +2, on a count-back from Val Sharrad, with Josie Bacchus the best of the others with square. Chris Bone won the nine-hole event with square also.

The novelty event was the most holes squared, won by Maxine Garnaut with 12.

Wednesday, January 4

Sixty-five men, including one from Thaxted Park, hit off in the men’s mid-week competition, sponsored by The Wash and Keith Daniels Homes.

A grade winner was Tyson Dodd, 41 stableford points, from Roger Forrest, 40. John Cheriton, 41, won B grade from Noel Welfare, 39. Kevin Reidy, 47, had score of the day to win C grade from Brian Slape, 39.

Run-down ball sweep winners were Craig Reidy, 40, from Haydn Myers, Garry Downey, Simon Bell and Rick Kolega, all 39.

NTP winners were Tyson Dodd, Craig Reidy, Juri Berzins, Ben Sellen, Haydn Myers and Scooter Easton.

There were only two birdies on the par three holes, Haydn Myers and Kris Bunder.

Tuesday, January 3

There were 13 players who started in the Twilight Golf event, with a three-way tie on 23 points; on count-backs, Jordy Chilman won from Ben Hussey and Adam Davies.

Monday, January 2

Eighteen players tackled the public holiday stableford competition. The men’s winner was Paul Polkinghorne, 43, from Brad Richards, 42, and James Blewit, 39, third after a count-back.

Ladies’ winner was Liz Weatherspoon, 35, from Adie Fraser, 34, after a count-back.
