THE Port Lincoln Anglers Club will celebrate its 50th birthday in April this year much to the delight of founding member Leon Paterson.

Mr Paterson said the group started as a way for people to share their common interest and was pleased to see it continuing.

Life member Heather Hampel said the club attended state championships together as well as going on regular fishing outings locally.

Ms Hampel said the club also held social events these days but fishing was the groups main interest.

She said the birthday celebrations, to be held on April 8 at their Kemp Avenue clubroom in Port Lincoln, would be a chance for all past and present members to catch up and reminisce.

Ms Hampel said the club membership was still really strong even though it had struggled to attract a lot of new families.

She said the seven-day workforce meant a lot of families could not make it to outings.

“It is a good way to meet people and we do have a couple of juniors and it is good to see them enjoying fishing,” she said.

Ms Hampel said the group had always had brilliant support from its sponsors and from the community which made all the difference to the clubs success.
