TWO internationally acclaimed pianists, Simon Tedeschi and Kevin Hunt will perform at SALT Festival in late April.
Tedeschi and Hunt have been performing and touring together extensively for the past 10 years and have received rave reviews for their program of irresistible classical and jazz works.
Tedeschi has been able to squeeze in one brief visit to Port Lincoln among his busy touring schedule and said he was delighted to have the opportunity to play in Port Lincoln and to perform in the Nautilus Theatre.
Hunt performed Port Lincoln with Don Burrows and Julie Anthony during the the Nautilus Theatre opening.
Hunt said he had fond memories of the concert with Burrows and remembered the fabulous curtain adorning the stage created by local artists Sue Catt and Geraldine Krieg.
“Simon has always loved jazz and can really ‘dive’ into the jazz feeling and I have always loved classical music for its detail of sound production and composition,” Mr Hunt said.
“The music we play together constantly weaves between jazz and classical forms, and now after years of playing together, our improvising has become an exciting part of the performance too.”
Tedeschi said the exciting thing about performing with Hunt was the fusion of their personalities and the unique musical recipe it created.
“I hope that’s what you get from our performance, the sense that two very different individuals, united in their love for music, each bring something different, yet equally exciting to the stage.”
Tedeschi has been awarded several international prizes including first prize in the Keyboard division of the Royal Overseas League Competition (UK) and the Legacy Award from the Creativity Foundation (USA).
He has also performed in concert halls around the world and for world leaders such as George W. Bush, Vladimir Putin, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.
Last year Tedeschi performed with the Adelaide and Sydney Symphony Orchestras, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and a new CD and national tour with theatre icon, John Bell.
Hunt is an award winning jazz pianist who has performed regularly in the Sydney jazz scene since 1979 and in the last 18 years shared the stage with international artists including Herb Ellis and Larry Adler.
SALT committee member Terry Krieg said he was certain Port Lincoln music lovers were in for a treat when Tedeschi and Hunt hit the Nautilus Theatre stage on Saturday, April 22 at 8pm.
