THE Port Lincoln Art Prize People’s Choice winner Makenzie Dickie said she was surprised to learn her artwork had won.
Miss Dickie said she entered the artworks she completed as part of her year 12 art project, which was based on critically endangered animals.
She said her winning artwork was done in pastel pencil, a medium she had never used before.
Miss Dickie said the pastel pencils allowed her to create pictures with rich color and incredible detail.
“It was my first time using them but I think it worked well,” she said.
She said her winning piece, titled ‘Fading’, expressed that the subjects of her work were fading from existence.
It was Miss Dickie’s first time entering work in the Port Lincoln Art Prize and she said it was nice to know people had voted for her work.
“I never expected to win anything so getting people’s choice was great,” Miss Dickie said.
