The South Australian under 15 Kickstart team played some great football and scored some wins in the AFL National Diversity Championships earlier this month.

The team, coached by Port Lincoln’s Harry Miller Jnr, contained some of the best young footballers from across South Australia, including Mallee Park players Leonard Wells and Ronald Carbine.

The team started well on April 9, first defeating Victoria by 19 points before dominating Queensland by 49 points with Wells scoring one goal.

They followed it up the next day with a 21-point win against New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory before losing to eventual winners Western Australia by 48 points.

The next day was even tougher with 11 and 10-point losses to Tasmania and Northern Territory respectively.

The team made the semi final but lost to Victoria by four points in a close match.

Miller said all the players, including Wells and Carbine, did their best and performed well against elite players.
