Port Lincoln Little Athletics has started giving young athletes an opportunity to participate in cross country running.

For the first time, Port Lincoln Little Athletics has organised cross country events at Brinkworth Reserve, open from 4-year-olds to under 17s.

Two events were held in April with one more to take place this Sunday.

Organiser Dylan Liffner said following this Sunday’s event the club would see how much interest there was in further events and decide how frequent they would be.

“My kids are into running and when we lived in Whyalla we were involved in the running club,” he said.

Mr Liffner said these events gave young runners a further opportunity to participate in cross country outside of the Lower Eyre Peninsula Championships, SAPSASA and Tcharkuldu Rock.

Three different tracks are set up for the events, a 500-metre track for 4 to 8-year-olds, a 1.5-kilometre track for 9 to 10-year-olds and a 2-kilometre track for those aged 11 and up.

Events are free for members and non-members are invited to try for a $2 fee. Parents are also invited to participate.

Anyone wanting to find out more can visit the Port Lincoln Little Athletics Facebook page or contact Mr Liffner on 0400 426 530.
