The cake decorating competition is making a come back at this year’s Port Lincoln Show.
Competition convenor and cake decorator Wendy McDonald said it was the first time the section had been included for many years.
“Calling all cake decorators because there's a lot of them out there,” she said.
The competition is open to both experienced and novice cake decorators with various classes including a one or two-tier decorated special occasion cake, decorating plaque, novelty cake and three cupcakes.
“Novice is actually going to be fairly general because we've actually stated that they can be a novice until they've won a first prize in that section so pretty much everyone is eligible,” Mrs McDonald said.
To allow exhibitors to focus purely on the decoration aspect, they are allowed to use ‘fake cakes’ – moulds made of foam – which are available at newsXpress Beers Port Lincoln.
Exhibitors must read the conditions of entry to ensure decorated cakes meet all eligibility criteria.
“These types of cakes are not to be decorated in buttercream or soft icing because it’s more the hard icing and fondant decorations.”
If exhibitors are unsure of criteria, they can contact Wendy McDonald on 0429 821 720.
Entries are due Thursday, August 10 and will be judged at on the Port Lincoln Show day, August 13.
