A local venue has beaten one of the biggest names in wedding venues at this year’s State Annual Bridal Industry Awards.
The Port Lincoln hotel won Best Hotel Reception Venue 2017 in the nationally recognised awards, topping Mount Lofty House, located in the Adelaide Hills, by 0.5 per cent.
Port Lincoln Hotel wedding coordinator Karena Cowley said the hotel only did between 15 and 20 weddings a year compared to one scheduled almost every day at Mount Lofty House.
She said it was incredible to be recognised as a regional hotel compared to some of the most popular and busiest venues closer to the city.
“Beating some of the big name hotels was pretty amazing.”
Ms Cowley said it was the first time the hotel had received an award as a wedding venue.
“We’re really just proud and humble and stoked to win it,” she said.
Winners and finalists in the state awards are based solely on the ratings of brides and grooms with more than 30 wedding guests, who rated the Port Lincoln Hotel 97.68 per cent compared to Mount Lofty House with 97.21 per cent.
Brides and grooms have come from as far as Whyalla, Melbourne and the Northern Territory to enjoy the hotel as a wedding venue and Ms Cowley said it came down to being able to accommodate for the finer details of a wedding.
“No two weddings are the same and brides love being able to have everything in the one building,” she said.
“I think it's always the little things like making sure they've got their favourite wine available or making sure the kids are all happy with a kids table and being flexible.”
The Port Lincoln Hotel also featured in the statewide awards with Ms Cowley, who has been in the role for three years, recognised as a finalist for function coordinator with a rating of 97.62 per cent.
“A big thank you and congratulations has to go to our functions team really,” she said.
The hotel was a finalist in the First Night Honeymoon category, placing fourth.
