The Kirton Bowling Club held its Men’s Invitation Carnival on Sunday, October 8 with 16 teams from Cleve, Cowell, Port Neill and Kimba and the five Southern Eyre Peninsula clubs competing for $2400 in prize money.
Conditions were perfect and competition was fierce and close with only seven points separating the top four teams after 48 ends of play.
After being neck and neck before the last game, the Kirton team of Zoran Koncurat, Darryl Hage, Nigel Griffin and Max Anderson had a strong final game to finish with 194.5 points, two points in front of the Lincoln side of Gerado Perone, Sime Perin, Dan Hassell and Joe Rynne on 192.5 points.
Three teams vying for third were all within two points after three games and it was the last game that decided who finished where.
Third went to the Cummins team of Colin Harding, Ross Mickan, Ian Holman and Barry Kearsley with 188.5, one point in front of the Cleve team of Kym Wakefield, Dene Noble, Brian Dolling and Noel Millard on 187.5.
Michael Cooke, Rodney McDonald, Bob Milic and Kym Schumacher from Lincoln finished fifth with 147.
Thanks go to the competitors for the spirit in which the games were played, to the many club sponsors who make these events possible and to the behind the scenes people who kept things running smoothly and without any dramas all day.
