Port Lincoln Remembrance Day 2017

Members of the Port Lincoln community gathered at the war memorial on Saturday for the Remembrance Day service, organised by the Port Lincoln RSL.

About 300 people attended the service which started at 10.30am with an introduction from RSL sub-branch president Garry Johnston and the service was led by The Venerable Peter Linn.

Th opening address noted how this year marked the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele and the Battle of Beersheba, and how 1917 became Australia’s most costly year for military losses with nearly 77,000 Australians either killed, missing or wounded.

Wreaths were laid and a minute silence was held before the ceremony finished and people were invited to come to the Port Lincoln RSL for a light lunch.
