Danielle Richardson could clearly see the planet Jupiter from her bedroom window at Tiatukia on Tuesday morning, capturing this image at sunrise.
After taking the photo, Mrs Richardson thought it was the moon until some research online found Tuesday morning was the best time to capture Jupiter at daybreak.
“It was a fluke.”
Mrs Richardson said it was a unique experience to see a planet with the naked eye and seeing it “really put things into perspective”.
“I’ve hinted to my husband that I want a tripod for Christmas,” Mrs Richardson said.
Venus and Jupiter could be seen together in the sky on Monday morning, with the next celestial event being the supermoon on Monday, December 4.
