THE Eyre Peninsula Local Government Association board has a new president after Bruce Green resigned from the position on Monday this week.
The position has been filled by Tumby Bay District Council mayor Sam Telfer who will hold it until the next local government elections in February 2019.
Mr Green said the reason for his resignation was succession planning.
He said the next Local Government Association president rotation would fall to a regional mayor but to be eligible the candidate was required to have a 12-month LGA board membership.
“There is no pressure but it does give Sam the opportunity,” Mr Green said.
“I have really enjoyed being on the board, this is about transitioning to the next generation of local government leaders.”
EPLGA executive officer, Tony Irvine thanked Mr Green and said he had shown exemplary leadership in the local government position.
“I have found working with mayor Green to be very enjoyable and rewarding.”
