Zonta members are excited to have been able to book another very interesting speaker for their annual International Women’s Day event next March.
Dr Barry Kirby works in Papua New Guinea (PNG) as a doctor.
He first went to Papua New Guinea as a carpenter to build a school but after seeing a young woman dying on the side of the road and in his 40s, he came back to Australia and studied to become a doctor.
Dr Kirby now works in the highlands and islands back in Papua New Guinea assisting women and their children.
Dr Kirby has established a foundation, The Hands of Rescue, which enables him to provide mothers with plastic baby baths filled with nappies, clothes and soap that not only encourages them to present to the doctor, but also assists them to look after their babies more hygienically after they are born.
People can read more about Dr Kirby’s work online at Hands of Rescue – Dr Barry Kirby vimeo.com/172654382 and everyone is encouraged to keep Saturday, March 10, 2018 in the diary to go along and hear his inspirational speech at the Port Lincoln Hotel for International Women’s Day.
Profits from the event will be donated to Dr Kirby’s foundation.
The club has decided to change the event from a breakfast to a brunch for next year so people will not need to get up so early.
The planned start time will be 9.30am and tickets will be advertised for sale later in January.
