Boston Bean Coffee Co has capped off a big year by winning gold at the Golden Bean Coffee Roasters Competition.

The coffee company, which started in 2015, won gold in the Single Origin (Espresso) category for its Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Konga.

Coffee roasters from across Australia and New Zealand entered the competition, the largest of its kind in the world, with winners announced in Port Macquarie on November 25.

Boston Bean co-owner Richard Scott said the business only started entering competitions this year and it felt great to receive gold.

“We’re pretty excited because it’s such a prestigious award,” he said.

This is not the first award for the company as they earned a bronze at the Australian International Coffee Awards in March, as well as two silvers and three bronze at the Hobart Fine Food Awards in August.

Mr Scott said entering the competitions were about gaining feedback to further improve the product and the business.

He said the award results did show the company was on the right track.

“By not compromising the quality of our coffee, we’re on the right path,” he said.

“Our aim was to use the competitions we enter for improvement of our product.”
