The Port Lincoln community donated more than $5679 for local boy Jack Kemp at the ‘Beards Off Fundraiser for Jack Kemp’ at the Grand Tasman Hotel on Wednesday night.
The fundraiser, initiated by Port Lincoln woman, raised money for Jack, 5, who was diagnosed with clear cell meningioma in 2015.
More than 100 people gathered as local men Blake O’Halloran, Francis Picken, James Poynter, Jason Howell, Travis Hugo, Alan Harris and Jarrad Delaney had their beards shaved off for the cause.
It did not stop there as some locals also stood up to get their heads shaved, including Tony Octoman following a sizeable donation from Tony’s Tuna International, employer of Jack’s dad Kain Kemp.
Jack even had a go throughout the event in giving the participants a shave.
Ms Baldock said it was great to be able to give to Jack and his family.
She said it was amazing to see how a small idea grew into such a big event with so much support.
Jack’s mother Grace Kemp said it was overwhelming to see the Port Lincoln community continue to pull together to help those in hardship.
“Jack has loved being a part of it, he’s been talking about it at school for some time,” she said.
Master of ceremonies Peter Williams said the Port Lincoln community always came out of the woodwork to support causes like this, which was pleasing to see.
“Anything that needs support, Port Lincoln always comes up to the plate,” he said.
Ethnic Cowboys provided musical entertainment throughout the night with Coco Loco Catering providing a special beard cake.
