Health Promotion Officer – Fulltime 1.0 EFT

PLAHS Employees Enterprise Agreement 2019, Health Worker Grade 3 (negotiated according to qualifications/experience)

A full-time position is available in this Aboriginal community-controlled Health Service for a highly motivated and creative Health Promotion Officer located in the Public Health Team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Promotion of Aboriginal community health and well-being utilising a Population Health approach
  • Planning and implementation of health promotion activities developed within the PLAHS Strategic Plan in consultation with service providers, agencies and the Aboriginal community
  • Coordination of community health education events and provision of an annual calendar of health promotion activities
  • Contributing to: community consultation and development; research and evaluation: workshop facilitation: resource and policy development, submission writing, advocacy, designing and delivering public information campaigns
  • Promoting realistic community expectations of services and referral pathways
  • Coordination of all health promotional, screening or educational activities to primary and secondary school students and community health education events
  • Providing data and reports as required
  • Coordinating multi-media productions (TV, radio, advertising, publications, pamphlets etc)

The successful applicant will have:

  • A Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice and/or an acceptable equivalent qualification/experience
  • Completed health promotion training, or willingness to undertake further education relevant to the position
  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and values
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team approach
  • Effective communication skills with a wide range of people and organisations
  • Sound IT competence in use of Microsoft Office products, data entry and multimedia programs
  • Knowledge of relevant local and external resources and organisations
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and uphold privacy principles
  • A current full, unrestricted driver's licence, a satisfactory Working with Children Check (WWCC), an Aged Care related DCSI Criminal History Check, and/or a National Police Certificate
