HOW a locomotive and wagon were damaged while on the railway in Cummins last Thursday afternoon is being investigated.

Rail operator Genesee and Wyoming managing director Greg Pauline said only minimal damage was caused when one hit the other at low speed at about 4.45pm.

Nobody was injured and Genesee and Wyoming is assessing the incident.

"GWA insists on the highest safety standards and works with the relevant authorities on any incident involving its lines," Mr Pauline said.

"It is important that such incidents are assessed."
