Phone app will help fishers, regulators

FISHERS will be able to access the latest rules and regulations through a new recreational fishing smartphone app.

The state government released the app, which will give fishers access to the most up to date information on fishing rules, regulations and closures this summer.

Fisheries Minister Gail Gago said the app, called SA Recreational Fishing Guide, was free and was a complete guide for anyone wanting to fish in South Australian waters.

"This very handy app provides fast and easy access to the state's fishing rules, regulations, area closures and size and bag limits, as well as the ability to report suspicious or illegal fishing activity to Fishwatch," she said.

"Users will also be able to report shark sightings and make catch reports.

Ms Gago said the app would also allow Primary Industries and Regions SA to send out direct alerts to people who had subscribed to it, which would make it easier to alert fishers on rule changes and seasonal closures.

The app is available for download at ww.pir.sa.gov.au
