He managed to secure the safe Liberal seat of Schubert beating out Family First candidate Tony Hurn, Labor candidate Adam Slobodian and Greens candidate Jasemin Rose.

"It feels good to hold onto the seat for the party," Mr Knoll said.

"I do feel a great sense of opportunity to have won the seat. It's not often you get an opportunity like this and I am going to grab it by the horns."

Mr Knoll will take over from retiring Liberal member Ivan Venning who served the community for 24 years and fought for a number of local causes including the Barossa Hospital, a cause which Mr Knoll said he would fight for during his campaign.
