TWO Eyre Peninsula footballers made the team of the championship at the South Australian Country Football Championships in Berri on the weekend, despite a disappointing overall result for Eyre Peninsula.
Footballers Reece Francis and George Pedler were selected in the team of the carnival, which was dominated by players from Southern Districts and Murray South East.
In Eyre Peninsula's first match of the weekend, they were defeated by Northern Zone before a 48-point loss to Southern Districts, who went on to win the championship on Sunday.
In the playoff games on Sunday, Eyre Peninsula narrowly lost to Eastern Zone by three points, to end up at the bottom of the ladder. Nicholas Franklin kicked four goals for Eyre.
Southern Districts went on to win the championship over Murray South East by six points in a tightly contested match.
Murray South East backliner, and former Eyre Peninsula footballer, Tyson Wait took out the T&R Pastoral Player of the Championships winning the Don McSweeney Medal.
Southern Districts' Tom Johnson was named Under 21 Player of the Championships.
