Truck fire

Truck fire

A LOCAL farmer's truck caught on fire between Darke Peak and Kimba on the Balumbah-Kinnard Road Monday morning.

The farmer was travelling between farms with a small amount of super phosphate on board.

Eastern Eyre CFS group office Bryan Trigg said the fire was contained quickly and did not spread to the side of the road or the paddocks.

"It was relatively green on the paddock near the truck, but if it caught on dried stubble with the wind that we had, it would have been a very different situation," he said.

"The farmer wasn't injured thankfully, but it looks like the fire was due to a battery short-circuiting and caused a spark in the semi-trailer, causing it to catch fire."

Gum Flat, Darke Peak, Waddikee and Kimba CFS crews attended the scene just after 10.30am.
